MELIORA ON LINE TREASURE HUNT - REPORT AND RESULTS

Blackpool Grammar & Collegiate Schools

Treasure Hunt Report July 2004

The Treasure hunt was a delightful example of what good the internet can be put to. The end result was a donation of £310 being made to ChildLine the childrens charity. Members who missed the hunt can still follow the 25 online question school timetable by clicking:- Treasure Hunt Questions .

ChildLine were delighted with our donation and sent a letter of thanks from which the following extract has been taken:-

Dear Meliora Website Members,

I am writing on behalf of ChildLine to thank you the former pupils of Blackpool Collegiate and Grammar School for your extremely kind donation of £310.

Your donation will go directly towards helping us to answer more calls from children and young people.

It costs £3 to answer every call to our helpline. As a result of your donation we will be ale to answer over 100 more calls from children. From the outset, nearly 18 years ago, ChildLine has encountered a level of demand that no-one could have foreseen. It is a tragic reality that many children have to call ChildLine again and again before they can get through to a counsellor. Our greatest fear is that some children will stop trying all together.

Once again, thank you all for supporting ChildLine.

With warmest wishes,

IMOGEN TUTT
Corporate Partnership Executive

So to the prizes and winners!

To be entered into the prize draw a modest 75% was required and this was obtained by all who entered, although the perfect 100% on the on-line version was scarce. Amazingly one of the questions on the walking treasure hunt had to be scrubbed as the street sign was removed by the council on the day of the Treasure Hunt - to my knowledge it had been in its location for the 30 years prior. Where a team had entered the walking treasure hunt all team members were entered into the draw. Although a possibility no two members from the same team won prizes.

First prize winner drawn and with an impressive 100% was Jon Hinchcliffe who generously declined his prize.
Second drawn was Philip Sixsmith a 1968 starter who chose the Sandcastle Tickets.
Prizes of double wristbands to Blackpool Pleasure Beach were won by Dee Malliot (1977) and Kathy Lord (1960).
The bottle of wine was awarded to Mick Forshaw a 1966 starter.

The website is most grateful to the Pleasure Beach, The Sandcastle Centre and The West Coast Rock Cafe for their generous donations of prizes.
