THE MELIORA WEBSITES BIGGEST EVER PROJECT
The latest project from the Meliora website is about to be announced. For
those who visit the website closely there have been a few clues. The
website has been in negotiation with the Trustees of the Memorial Room - The
present Head teacher - and other interested persons concerning a fitting
memorial to a 1944 starter who the School and the town of Blackpool should
not forget.
Details will be announced when it is appropriate and final details have been
arranged. I hope that several members of the website will be invited as
guests to a ceremony (or even assembly) to be held in the School at some
point in the next 8 months. As mentioned in the e-mail sent to advertise
this edition of The Meliorian I would especially like to hear from all
members past and present of the Police Force.
E-MAIL ADDRESS The cull of failing e-mail addresses will take place very shortly. The continuing migration from dial up to broadband internet connections is still the major problem so please let the e-mail monitor know if you change your address - you do not want to miss that all important e-mail do you!.
MATERIAL FOR THE WEBSITE
Material for the website is always required and the diverse range of items displayed makes the site the envy of other former Blackpool Schools Pupils. The monitor has been approached for advice from two other schools alumni recently for details on how MELIORA came about and got started. Membership of our e-mail lists now exceed 1000 entries with new members each and every week. If you come across any material when having a good tidy up please let the website know and please send it in rather than throw it out!.
REUNIONS
Once again the Reunion scene is buzzing with new events being planned. Please let the Reunion Monitor know if you have a mini get together with a short report and a photo if possible. It is very rewarding to learn that the website is responsible for small groups meeting up in Canada, Australia, USA, Spain and New Zealand.
SALLY WILSON
Sally Wilson the 18 year old daughter of the website founder Martin Wilson is spending a year as a volunteer in Poland. Sally is amongst other projects helping local schools with English lessons, teaching young people how to access the internet, teaching Polish Teenagers various DJ skills as part of a DJ training Project and also is organising the first all girls football team in the area of Poland where she is.
FUNDING
Once again the website funds are nearly all spent, with time being given freely the only cost is web space, address and access. It may be possible that a 'Raffle' is held to ensure that funds are available to run the site for another 12 months - if this proves necessary there will be a limit of £5 as the maximum that any individual can submit. If the monitor was to fine all those people whose address failed were deleted and then reinstated the same amount the website would be self funding!!
MARTIN WILSON
Founder of the Meliora Website is delighted to announce that the viewing figures for the site continue to rise and the visitor rate now varies between 60 and 100 visits per day. Martin still performs the majority of work for the website and apologises for the slow delivery of material on the website. This is totally due to the delightful Indian Summer that the UK has experienced. Martin has been awaiting surgery for some 18 months and having 'gone large' due to lack of exercise was delighted to learn that he could cycle without any discomfort. When the normal weather returns the amount of material appearing should increase to previous levels. Martins operation is scheduled to take place in early 2003 and he plans to spend time on the website during his advised three week convalescence.
ERRORS AND SPELLING MISTAKES
The website is written in notepad and mainly by my rather clumsy typing. If you should find any errors on any page please feel free to let me know so I may change them and keep up the high standard fitting of ‘your’ old school. Simply e-mail with the error and the last part of the page address (e.g. this would be meliorian0702.htm). The same applies to any dead or non functioning links. The website contains approx. 1400 pages.
Sadly not everyone who uses the Internet is of sound mind and there are individuals out there who get pleasure from damaging equipment and systems of others.
There have been instances where e-mails purorting to have come from site members have been sent. These have not originated from the named sender, but from a malicious source
Viruses are generally sent as an attachment to an e-mail. If you are not expecting an e-mail with an attactchment it may be better not to open it until further enquiries have been made.
Under no circumstances will an e-mail be sent from: -
There has also been a rash of good intentioned e-mails advising recipients to delete non virus bearing genuine.
