GERALD RICHARDSON MEMORIAL

The monitors have now contacted Gerald's widow Maureen. Both Gerald and Maureen are former pupils of BGS and Collegiate.

Maureen is totally supportive and in favour of the websites wish to see a permanent memorial to Gerald's memory placed in the Schools Memorial Room at Highfurlong.

Maureen advised that Gerald's grave has been the subject of at least three acts of mindless vandalism and that she has paid over £500 to have painted graffiti removed.

The present Headteacher , Mr McGrath, is to now contact the trustees of the Memorial Room who have previously given support to this project.

The monitors have asked if the dedication of the memorial could be linked to a special assembly in the school to which members of the Meliora Website could be invited. It is hoped that this will take place before the end of summer term in July this year.

In order that interested persons may be invited please write, to the address below, indicating interest and mention if applicable any connection with the Police Force in any capacity. The monitors would are also willing to pass on any messages or letters to Maureen especially from any of her former pupils at Revoe School. Please write by snail mail ASAP to:-

SPONSORSHIP

The Meliora Sponsorship initiative is well underway and pages continue to be claimed and sponsored each week. If you are interested in sponsoring your very own part of Meliora please e-mail a monitor.

SCHOOL PRIZE EVENING NOVEMBER

The monitors are delighted to announce that the first Meliora website School Prize will be awarded in November this year.

In line with the wishes of the majority of the websites first sponsors the prize is not to be awarded for a specific academic subject - but for 'effort' the interpretation of this has been left to the school but the Monitors have requested that one boy and one girl each receive a prize.

LATEST ADDITIONS TO THE WEBSITE

The monitors update the website each week and the latest additions changes and removals are listed from approximately 7 p.m. each Sunday night.

E-MAIL ENCRYPTION

The website has in the past been the target of e-mail harvesting, measures previously taken kept this to an absolute minimum. Every e-mail address listed on the website has now been encrypted to deter harvesters even further. Members of the website should see no difference at all and addresses should be able to be clicked upon to send the listed member e-mail. For those curious to see the changes open the page source and see how the e-mail address is now coded.

E-MAIL UPDATES

With Broadband now becoming available to more and more Internet users across the country/ world, please remember to advise the monitors if this results in you having to change your e-mail address. Please advise the monitors if you change your address for if you do not you will be deleted from the website :-( .

MELIORA SUCESSES

The monitors are always delighted to hear of friendships being renewed through this website. Amongst recent highlights have been an old boy and girl who have now been living together for almost 12 months. An old boy who wrote to say that " Thanks to the Meliora Website I have been able to re-establish contact with long lost friends who , otherwise, I might never have heard from again."

News regularly reaches the monitors of persons getting together after Reunions and are anticipating the first Meliora Website wedding in the near future!

MONITORS BIRTHDAY

As is customary the Monitor wishes to remind website members that his birthday (46th) will occur on Sunday May 11th. Cards and gifts - however large should be sent to the address appearing near the top of this newsletter!

REUNIONS

There are several Reunions occurring in the next few months and details can be found if applicable on the relevant year index. Should you be lucky enough to have a Reunion pending for your year please ensure you let anyone who is eligible to attend know.
