SPONSOR YOUR OWN LITTLE BIT OF MELIORA!
Thank you to everyone who has offered ideas regarding the sponsor of the MELIORA Website. The ideas have been most thought provoking and have raised some requests that the Monitors had not even contemplated. The website has always been designed to be as inclusive as possible - you may have been the best or worst person of your year - but everyone is now equal.
Taking the suggestion that many people would like to contribute a little to ensure the sites continuation and development it is proposed that individual pages should be available for sponsorship. The pages will be made on first come first served basis and pages may be reserved for a period of seven days to allow payment to be made. The scale of charges is as follows and the period of sponsorship will be for one year subject to the following maximums £5 per individual £25 per business :-
All Year Indexes and -mail Indexes £5 per individual per year £25 per business per year
All other pages £1 per individual per year £5 per business per year
Thus you can sponsor one index or up to five other pages Click to see example (opens new browser).
The Main Home index and The All Year index etc have been sponsored by PSLOFTS for the next 12 months.
The name of the sponsor will appear both on the page and on the new list of sponsor's page
It is proposed that the website will use part of the sponsorship money to provide a school prize in the name of The Meliora Website at both the Main School and Sixth Form College.
Please e-mail the Sponsorship Monitor to reserve any pages or for further information. Details of how to submit payment will be sent when your page(s) have been reserved.
Should this sponsorship prove very successful then the period of sponsorship may be
increased beyond twelve months WITHOUT any further charge - the Monitors wish it to be known
that this is not a personal money making scheme on the lines of other national 'friends'
sites.
However should this sponsorship prove a flop then the future of MELIORA will be - oh dear.
Meliora Interactive Question number one proved very popular and your votes and comments kept the monitors both amused and busy throughout January view the results online now JANUARY POLL RESULTS and don't forget to read the many now JANUARY POLL COMMENTS comments which accompanied the results - names have been removed to save any embarrassment. The next question is now on-line and will remain open until the end of March - What was your favourite and worst subject at school - what made you eager for school and what subject was so bad that you would actully dread the day you had a double lesson of it? Please e-mail the Poll Monitor at the special address School Subject Poll
If you wish to add any comments or submit any memories on this subject please e-mail the Comment Monitor:- School Subject Comments
THE MELIORA WEBSITES BIGGEST EVER PROJECT
The latest project from the Meliora Website is to be the placing of a fitting memorial to Old Boy 1944 starter Gerald Richardson who the School and the town of Blackpool should not forget.
Gerald Richardson was shot down in the line of duty on August 23rd 1971 and is the highest ranking Police Officer to have died in the line of duty
Members of the website will be disgusted to learn that Gerry Richardsons gravestone in Layton Cemetary was the target for graffiti.
The website has been in negotiation with the Trustees of the Memorial Room - The present Head teacher - and other interested persons. The website now only needs the blessing of Geralds widow Maureen - herself an Old Girl of Collegiate. Maureen appears to winter abroad and attempts to contact her have proved impossible so far. The Website is confident that Maureens consent will be obtained by the end of March.
Details will be announced when it is appropriate and final details have been arranged. I hope that several members of the website will be invited as guests to a ceremony (or even assembly) to be held in the School at some point in the next 6 months. As mentioned in the e-mail sent to advertise this edition of The Meliorian I would especially like to hear from all members past and present of the Police Force.
E-MAIL ADDRESS The cull of failing e-mail addresses continues to remove naughty addresses. The continuing migration from dial up to broadband internet connections is still the major problem so please let the e-mail monitor know if you change your address - you do not want to miss that all important e-mail do you!.
MATERIAL FOR THE WEBSITE
Material for the website is always required and the diverse range of items displayed makes the site the envy of other former Blackpool Schools Pupils. The monitor has been approached for advice from two other schools alumni recently for details on how MELIORA came about and got started. Membership of our e-mail lists now exceed 1000 entries with new members each and every week. If you come across any material when having a good tidy up please let the website know and please send it in rather than throw it out!.
REUNIONS
Once again the Reunion scene is buzzing with new events being planned. Please let the Reunion Monitor know if you have a mini get together with a short report and a photo if possible. It is very rewarding to learn that the website is responsible for small groups meeting up in Canada, Australia, USA, Spain and New Zealand.
ERRORS AND SPELLING MISTAKES
The website is written in notepad and mainly by my rather clumsy typing. If you should find any errors on any page please feel free to let me know so I may change them and keep up the high standard fitting of ‘your’ old school. Simply e-mail with the error and the last part of the page address (e.g. this would be meliorian0203.htm). The same applies to any dead or non functioning links. The website contains approx. 1400 pages.
Sadly not everyone who uses the Internet is of sound mind and there are individuals out there who get pleasure from damaging equipment and systems of others.
There have been instances where e-mails purorting to have come from site members have been sent. These have not originated from the named sender, but from a malicious source
Viruses are generally sent as an attachment to an e-mail. If you are not expecting an e-mail with an attactchment it may be better not to open it until further enquiries have been made.
Under no circumstances will an e-mail be sent from: -
There has also been a rash of good intentioned e-mails advising recipients to delete non virus bearing genuine.
