message contents:   My wife and I visted Blackpool about a month ago and I took her to the old Blackpool Grammar School the section being used by the Salvation Army. We introduced ourselves and were granted a tour of the section the Salvation Army were using and took some photographs. I got into Dr Bensons old office were I had on occasions been caned and generally enjoyed our visit. We were well received and treated most kindly by the Salvation Army Officer. The changes in Blackpool itself from those days that I was there, are enormous and it does seem as though there is little likelihood of any improvement in the foreseeable future. I was informed of the huge drug problem in the area and the various statistics quoted painted a bleak picture. We left Blackpool slightly disappointed with the current state of affairs but as I stated previously it was indeed interersting.

message contents:   The passing of Bernard Levin brought to mind the occasion when I and four others from BGS and the Collegiate interviewed him on Granada TV's "Youth Wants to Know". If you are interested you can read an account of this together with Levin's review of the programme (at the time he was TV critic for the Guardian newspaper) by going to the 1951 page and clicking on "1951 Starters as Television Pioneers".
