message contents:   Thanks to Mick Forshaw for organising our "intimate" reunion during my recent visit to the old town; thanks also to Jon Hinchcliffe for completing our threesome. Great spending time with these guys, having not clapped eyes on either of them for 30-odd years. Had a great time also the next day; fish & chip lunch at Mick's (complete with Tizer, which we don't have in NZ), followed by a walk on Fleetwood beach. Most uncanny feeling the night before, sitting in Jon's parents lounge; the last time I was there having been around 1970 at a party, chatting to a girl while sitting on what Jon reckons is the very same sofa! Cheers, lads - see you when you accept our invitation to visit GodZone.

message contents:   Hi all – what a surprise to find this great site! I went to Norbreck primary and then joined BGS in 1960 at the noisy old Raikes’ Parade with its Church Street trams. There were many ‘masters’ who were real characters: DQ, Drip Murdock, Percy Williams, Harry Lander, Ken Topping and the Rev Luft. I remember soon after arriving shouting back “same to you with knobs on!” at a master who’d just shouted at us to be quiet as we were waiting in the corridor (well he was making a row as well wasn’t he?) and then trying to dart out of sight – but to no avail. At the end of the first year we were at the new school. It seemed so light! I look back on those days with some affection. Remember Tarantara? Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end if I hear it now. I was keen on cross-country running, ATC, our brass band – anything but studying, and left in ‘67. I’m now living and working in Leicester (having spent 11 years in N. Ireland) and come back to Blackpool to see my dad from time to time. I’d love to get in contact with anyone from those times and have always regretted not keeping in touch with old mates. I’ve sent Martin names of everyone on the upper 6th modern set photo of ‘67, which might jog a few memories.

message contents:   Mr Padmore was also interested in cricket and used to throw hard balls at anyone who was daft enough to bat against him. This would usually be in the middle of the playground at Layton Primary, surrounded by other pupils who'd be engrossed in their own playtime activities. Nowadays he'd be crucified for a lack of safety.

message contents:   I remember Dennis Rowell offering a large sum of money to any pupil who could beat him at Fives. Think it was, appropriately, a fiver. I tried very hard for about a year but only ended up with battered hands, knees and elbows from the ball, the floor, and the walls. Crazy game! Did anyone win the money?
