Our class were the no hopers mixed with the Grammar School C stream, given Denis Quinlan (the outcast of the teaching staff),as form teacher for our 5th year. Denis had never been given a successful form to manage, but in 1962 our class gained the best 'O' levels of results of the school! |

| message contents: ; | Regarding Rugby League - I think I may have played in the first Collegiate RL team. Probably in 1979ish we had a one-off game aginast Fylde Farm. The school RU team at the time was coached by Brian Watt but the RL game was put together by the stalwart Blackpool Borough fans Johnny Johnson (Chemistry) and Mr Boardman (RK). As I remember the team was basically the Union team and, not surprisingly, we played a very fluid Union-style of RL and beat the pants off Fylde Farm. We even did the very Union clapping-the-opponents-off-the-field-tunnel thing which most of the Fylde Farm lads avioded. I think there was only the one school RL match. A few of us turned out for Blackpool Stanley in curtain-raisers for the mighty Blacpool Borough. Sadly don't get to see much League over here in Canada. |

| message contents: ; | Re Rugby League - I came accross Roger Uttley in a pub in Harrow about 10-12 years ago. He was bemoaning the fact that BGS had gone downhill as a rugby school since going co-ed. Playing RL is a bit too far (that does sound like a RFU old f**t. He did not remember me or the fact that he walked all over me in a 1st XV v U-15 practice game. I thought (after a few beers) that it would have been one of the highlights of his career. |

| message contents: ; | Just wanted to thank pass on my thanks to Christine Bassindale, et al, for arranging the recent Poulton reunion. An enjoyable evening terminating in a club. in the early hours (thanks to the end of British Summer Time.) I believe those still standing agreed that it may be an idea to have a "standing reunion" in future. The basic idea being that each year, those who are able, should turn-up at a pub in Blackpool between 7:00 to 7:30 on the Saturday at the end of BST. I think the Washington was suggested for 2002. The good thing about this is that if you can't make it, you only have another year to wait (rather than another 15 years). Plus, the ageing process isn't as discernible over the shorter timescale. |
