ATC REPORT

A.T.C. REPORT Our compliments and thanks must go primarily to Fl/lt. Fullelove who as the only officer has worked very hard in order to, keep the squadron functioning successful]y. Our thanks must also be extended to Mr. Jackson for his help, too, in the Autumn term.

Squadron strength is now in the order of 30, and the majority' of these have passed examinations for either First Class, Leading. Senior or Stall cadet this year.

Promotions during tire year have been those of Colts Sharp and Partington to Corporal, Cpl.. Howell to Sergeant. and Sergeant Lloyd to Flight Sergeant Cpl. Sharp has also been selected for the Germany Camp this Summer.

The parade night continues to be Monday and the usual programme of examination training and drill is carried out. in addition a number of exercises have been held on the school fields; these were quite successful arid enjoyed by all.

'The Christmas Fair gave the junior cadets a chance to put on a display'. which despite the isolation of the headquarters, attracted an appreciable number of visitors; as a consequence of the fair the Engines room has lint been so clean and tidy for a long time. Shooting in the rifle range on 'Tuesdays and Wednesdays is another still very popular pursuit and marksmanship has improved. Canoeing on Thursdays on Stanley Park Lake also continues to attract a number which ensures all the canoes are used. '[his Near cadets have become proficient at climbing hack into the canoe while it is in the middle of the lake (which is no real surprise after seeing their proficiency at capsizing). In the various sports at Wing level, if on the rare occasions it cannot form a full team, the squadron always manages to provide a number of participants, arid this year was no exception Never- tireless we still managed to win the Senior and overall champion- ship cups in the Wing swimming competition, and the Senior arid Junior cups in the Wing cross country' events. As the result of these successes a number of cadets save gained places in the Wing teams for athletics, swimming, and cross country, arid Fl /Sgt. Lloyd gained a place in the region team, and though first home in his team only managed to gain 15th place overall.

Last summer s camp at R.A.F.. St. Mawgan was thought highly of by the dozen or so cadets whose first camp it was, and despite a certain amount or rough competition from a larger squadron, honour was satisfied on the final morning. Expeditions into the locality of Newquav and Bodmin Moor were very popular, even the weather was very pleasant. Colt. Barrett was lucky enough to get a 3 hour night flight in a Nimrod which caused a certain amount of jealousy amongst the less fortunate.

The annual camp just before Easter at R.A.F Lindholme near Doncaster was also very popular with the cadets who went, though three 'hippies' who infiltrated onto the camp with the squadron were discovered and had to leave. Day exercises continued to be the most favoured part of the programme which included visits to Sheffield arid Goole Docks. There was talk of the billet being haunted as some things disappeared, reappeared and went bump in the night, but this rumour was found to he unfounded.

Visits to B.A.C. Warton arid Salmesbury have also been given good support and found to be very interesting and informative. Cadets saw the Jaguar 'mock-up' arid the assembly lines of the Stnikemaster and further modification of the Provost, numerous other aircraft were viewed with interest.

To conclude we would like to thank Fl/It. Fullelove once again for the considerable time and effort he has spent on squadrons activities., arid also our thanks to the civilian committee and staff whose efforts are not always apparent to the lower forms of life, otherwise known as the cadets.

S.L. If S.L. would like his full name publisshed please let me know!

Old boy Tony Thompson wrote (thus prompting the choice ofthis item) :-
It occured to me that some people on the school list may have been members of the above ATC Squadron which was run by BGS I think the number was 190.
This may jog a few memories, though I can't think of any names at the moment.
I qualified as a glider pilot whilst with Squadron at the age of 16 one of the youngest in the country at that time

Best Wishes
Tony Thompson
