RAILWAY SOCIETY

The Society has once again had a very successful year with the membership of over 250, this number being over the last year's membership by nearly 50. More support is being gained each year as the diesel and electric locomotives take over from the steam.

The one day visits arranged for members this year have beers to Newcastle, Leeds, Doncaster and York. The Society has broken new ground by having a weekend trip to London, This trip was overbooked so much that another trip of the same kind had to be arranged.

The Annual visit to Leeds and Doncaster was arranged during the year, and new ground was broken by a visit to Doncaster works by the 3rd year boys and upwards.

Two new ventures next year will he, a visit to Bristol and London for 3 days, and a day' visit to Glasgow.

A magazine library meeting was held practically every Wednesday lunchtime ins the Physics lab. The meetings were well attended throughout the year, with refreshments always available.

We must once again thank Mr. Gowling for ensuring the smooth running of the society and also for tire hard work lie puts hr for it. Also we thank Mr. Halliwell for organising the film shows arid the masters who have accompanied us on our visits.
