STAMP CLUB

Many interesting activities have been held during our monthly meetings this year. At one meeting we brought our albums to show to other members and discussed the numerous ways of mounting and grouping the stamps. At another meeting Miss Wright showed us her album of flower stamps. At yet another we bought stamps at bargain prices.

As usual we had our annual competition. The entries were judged by the members of the Blackpool Philatelic Society and The results were:

1. J. England (IV P) AFRICAN ANIMALS
2. K. Shepley (II Y) ISLANDS
3. D. Roberts (IV P)
S. Johnson (III E)
B. Clark (IV P)
S. Green (II Y)

Finally I should like to thank Miss Wright for all the time she has given to organising our meeting's. As this is her last year with us I wish to thank her sincerely on behalf of all members of the Stamp Club arid myself and hope that her unique collection will someday become famous.

This jolly girls school item was sent to the author and to Kay who was a prize winner they said:-
Hi Martin

I remember this like it was yesterday and I'd forgotten all about Miss Wright. I can picture her reminding us too!

I also remember the stamps that I had for the theme of Islands were from Trinidad and Tobago and other exotic islands with lots of exotic flowers on them.

I also remember that the winners had their stamp displays exhibited at the Grundy Art Gallery in town and I went with a friend, Pauline I think, to see my stamps in there. I vividly recollect how when we were entering the Art Gallery how the curator told us we weren't allowed in, only people who had anything displayed could enter (I think this was a ploy to keep kids out without parents). I also very vividly remember my telling him that I DID have something displayed in there, in the stamp displays and I told him in no uncertain terms that I was going to go and look at them.

There really wasn't a thing he could say was there? LOL

Was it really so long ago?

I enjoyed reading the school magazine article again, it's fun.

Hi Martin,

Yes, I remember that wretched stamp club. I hated it but Miss Wright (aka Bulgy Bertha) was our science teacher and reminded me and probably Kay too, to attend. I also had the job of reminding others by going onto the stage at the end of assembly and reading out a notice about it. It always started "This is a little reminder" and I used to get teased by other girls about it. However, 30 years later here am I doing the same thing and "reminding" girls in my lessons to come to the various after school activities that I have been running!

Cheers

Susan
