Karen Barker SPEECH DAY 1969
For the first time since the war the Collegiate School Speech Day was not able to take - place in the usual surroundings of the Winter Gardens. Owing to the kindness of Mr. Brooks, however, it was held in the Hall of Blackpool Grammar School. We are very grateful to him for this, as we also are to the Old Girls' Association for their generous contribution which made it possible for the Prize Giving Ceremony to take place.
The speaker was Miss Higginson, Headmistress of Bolton School, Girls' Division, who spoke to us on the theme- strength of character. Her speech was illustrated by a lively visual aid known as "Potty Putty". We were then addressed by two members of the school, Sally Greene who spoke to us about the School German Trip and Irene Fox who talked about the Geography Field Course. Towards the end of the afternoon we were entertained by the singing of Susan Pickup, Eileen Frost, Ruth Crystal and Brenda Hamilton, and by the playing of Sylvia Frost, Caroline Hague, Wendy O'Hara and Susan Gregory.
The school was very relieved that Speech Day was once again able to take place, for it has always been a valued tradition and an integral part of our school life.
