YVONNE WRIGHT

We were an unruly crowd and a lot of fun --- giggling at everything and screaming with laughter at every little thing. There was a Tuck Shop next door to the school and we filled ourselves with biscuits and sweets --- such fun.

When I attended The Collegiate it was ruled by (My headmistress) a Scottish tyrant named Jessie Robinson --- to say it was Victorian in its ways was being kind. Mrs Robinson was there just before Miss Roberts.

However I must say I received a fantastic education and went on to study in France at the Sorbonne, French and its culture, plus Japanese language at the Faculty of Oriental Languages -- unusual choices in those days. I was not a shining star at the school I was about average ----- French and Art being my only really good subjects. --- I was also told that I would never amount to much -- (which I took as a challenge).

To have a University education in the UK in those days you had to have at least 5 "O" levels and 3 or 4 "A" levels --- plus a very high level of participation in sports --- preferably Captain or whatever or the Netball or Hockey team --- so that counted me out. Hence the final education in France!

I left to live in France and now the Pacific Northwest of the US

Can you let me know how to find out more about the Old School?

It was so much fun in those days ,we all had such a laugh
