TENNIS REPORT 1959 This season has, so far, been one of the most successful for many years, the first team having been defeated only once in nine games, a defeat which, incidently (sic), has since been avenged.
The season began with the appointment of officials. J.E. Bayley was deservedly elected Captain. He is fortunate in having as his Vive-Captain R.B. Hocknell, whose choice for Junior Wimbledon last year was no samll honour.
Owing to the prodigious efforts of J.E. Bayley as last year's secretary the fixture list this year is very considerable. Contrary to normal expectation only one of these has been affected by bad weather.
The first team this year is undoubtedly outstanding. Bayley and Hocknell have formed an excellent first pair whilst Frankland, Clarke and Newsome, the remaining members of the first team have all played consistently well. The team has been completed by the inclusion of Barton, Bradbury and Pickford on different occasions. At present, we have defeated Arnold Girls, Technical College, Palatine, King Edward VII, Lytham, Collegiate (twice), Convent and lost once to King Edwaard.
