"The whining schoolboy, with his satchel,
And shining morning face, creepinglike snail
Unwillingly to school"

SHAKESPEARE, As You Like It

Our Form can probably claim some inprovement on the Bard’s idea of the schoolboy. We do not (normally) whine, nor do we crawl unwilingly to school, and the shine on our faces may well be due to the pace at which we speed eagerley to Raikes Parade. Or on the other ghand it may not.

IIIa has had an excellent rugby season this year . The Form team has never been beaten, and in the Seven-a-side Tournament two of our teams played in the Final, Seven members of the Form, Davies. Johnston, Milner, P. E. Moss, J K. Bausor, R. W. Brooks and B. Hugill all played for the highly-successful Bantam XV. Johnston, Milner, Brooks and R. D. Parry have also played for the Feathers. Cricket prospects are not yet clear, but we have two good teams, Surrey and Middlesex. . Johnston, Holt, Brooks, Hugill , Davies, Lawson, Milner, H. Webster and A. A. Wilbraham have all represented the School at various times, and Holt made 41 in a recent " Under 14 "match. In athletics, Moss, a good all-rounder, won the .Junior Championship in last year's Sports, and we hope lie will he as successful this year.

Two boys, M. Lawson and M. J. Sharp, acted in the junior Dramatic Society's productions, and several others helped Mr. Hill behind the scenes : that, at any rate, is the version of the facts that must be given here. One diminutive member of the Foists must have learnt much about stage management, or perhaps composed poetry', as he sat gazing rapturously into space in the (lengthy) intervals between physical exertions.

The Form has corresponded regularly with the ships and the new Zealand School. We are told that we have written more letters than any other Form; how we were persuaded to do this must remain equally conjectural. Other out-of-school activities supported by the Form include the A.T.C., the P.T. Club, the M.S. Science Society, the Chess Club, and that benevolent institution, the Lost Property box. The Junior Chess Championship this year was won by Sudlow. Under the inspiring leadership of Mr. Rigby. who raises totals of perhaps 14s. to One Pound or more the Form, has been mentioned several times in Hall for having come first or second in the National Savings figures. In spite of all this, we have occasionally been working hard, and our aspiration, despite the imposing intellectuals of III Alpha, is to beat the other Third Forms for the first 30 places in the summer exams. IIIa has acquired a reputation in certain quarters for containing " characters," far front angelic, yet not entirely wicked, and whose nature is best known to those who partook of the skittles at the Christmas Favre in the latter part of the evening yet we too can number our intellects, To Mr. Rigby, our Form Master, we all express our thanks. This year's IIIa can look back to a happy 12 months under his guidance.
