I think the cost was £16, plus your spending money. We left in the evening from Blackpool Central, took the sleeper from Preston to Euston and crossed from Newhaven to Dieppe.
In Paris we stayed at the Cite Universitaire, where the photo was taken. We visited the Place de la Concorde and the Eiffel Tower, though I can't remember whether any of us made the ascent. We also visited the Invalides to see Napoleon's tomb and the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa, and on Sunday afternoon we went to a place called Robinson, where there was music for open-air dancing (lots of young people).
One evening the three of us who had just completed GCE A Level French (Roger Loveman, Peter Langtree and myself) went to the Comedie Francaise by ourselves, but I can't remember which play we saw.
Finally, the return crossing, at night, was awful. The weather in the Channel had been so bad that all services had been suspended for a week. Our boat was the first to make the crossing after this interruption: everyone was seasick, even the crew.

David Pollard was on the trip but not in the photo - did he take it?
I remember the sea crossing home was very rough but Jimmy and I did manage to eat a meal on board and regretted it afterwards!
One other memory was attempting to listen to a radio commentary on the Ashes test match when Jim Laker took 10 wickets - I don't recall anything else.
All the best
