THE SEA
The sea gave a murmuring sigh under the soothing caress of the sun. It swayed drowsily and
lapped against the shore, curling under its toes like a sleepy baby. A gentle breeze lifted its
white hair into a fine spray, breaking the sunlight into rainbow fragments. It half opened its
sleepy eyes gazing at the warm, silent beach. Little crabs scuttled into the coolness of the
waves; its green, glassy fingers received protectively. It drowsily ran its slender hands up
the shore, searching among the shells and seaweed for driftwood to float on its shadowy depths.
Gradually the breeze strengthened, the sea woke up, shivering in the oncoming chill.
It suddenly remembered its duties, roused itself, gathered itself up, and rushed at the
base of the cliff with a roar of triumph.
