APPOINTMENT WITH FEAR

It's a cold, dark night,
You're alone in the house- What's that a-scratching?
Don't scream!-just a mouse.
Did you hear that footstep?
And wh-who slammed that d-door?
G-good gracious! what ever's that,
Stretched on the f-floor?
It's only the cat, my dears-fast asleep,
But-" aooh " that groan-did it make your flesh creep?
Now don't be nervous-just take a seat,
Choose a nice chair, and curl up your feet.
Don't be afraid, there's no-one there,
But what's that, moving behind your chair?
Is it a ghost? What can it be?
Don't you wish you dare look to see?
The lamp's blown out-so now you've no light,
Oo-oh! isn't it eerie with just the firelight?
I can't be sure, but if you glance back,
I think you'll find the door's opened a crack!
And down in the corner, lust by the door,
Is something which wasn't there before I
I don't want to scare you, but-goodness! whats that?
That "something '' is moving across the mat!
You're going to bed? Well go-if you dare
But it's awfully dark at that bend on the stair.
When you reach your room, look under the bed,
Or else, in the morning, you maybe-dead!
Well now, my dears, have pleasant dreams
Of vampires-and daggers-and horrible screams!
And now to end with a little advice,
But don't be alarmed-it's really quite nice,-
When ever you're scared and the danger is growing,
It's being so cheerful that keeps you going !
