The Blackpool School 1921 Starter Photo

Dear Martin

I was interested to see the pictures and stories about your old school. My father attended the school between 1924 and 1927 and I have a letter from the head of that time J Turral BA. My dad was Arthur Dermot William Woollett he went into the army and served as a regular, but sadly in April 1944 he was killed in Burma. I am very curious to know if the Roll of Honour still exists as I understand that he is commemorated on it, do you know? I am going to Burma this November with the British Legion to visit his grave in Rangoon and also up country to the Arakan to the place where he fell.

I have researched his last hours and have found the man who was with him when he died. This man is in his seventies now and was able and very happy to tell me the whole story of that day. Do you have anyone on your register who was around the school as long ago as 1923-27? It is a long shot I know! Mainly I want to know if the Roll of Honour exists and if he is on it?

Thank you for any info you may give me.

Yours
Maureen Wakefield

Following Maureens e-mail I contacted the school who advised that Captain Woolletts name was missing from the Roll of Honour. Following minimum correspondence Captain Woolletts name was added in time for the year 2000 Remembrance Service in the School.

Maureen wrote an essay about her Fathers War Service which has been used in the school morning assemblies.
